The Kitchen and Laundry Rescue Guide

Here are five free pages to print and keep: the cleaners you must never mix, ten checked fixes, and two cards for the fridge and the laundry room.

Every fix in the guide is checked against labels, makers and government pages.

A note from Denise

Honey, this guide is for the moments when something goes wrong and you do not have time to search. Print it out. Stick the chart inside your cleaning cabinet and the leftovers card on the fridge, and the answer will be right where you need it. Everything in it has been checked, and the sources are listed on the site.

What is inside

  1. Page 1: The never-mix chart

It shows the cleaners that must never share a bucket, what to do if you mixed them by accident, and the Poison Help number. It is sized to tape inside a cabinet door.

  2. Page 2: Your five-item cleaning cabinet

This page covers washing soda, baking soda, dish soap, 3% hydrogen peroxide and oxygen bleach powder. You will see what each one is good for, and where each one should never go.

  3. Page 3: Ten checked rescues

Each fix gets two lines and the name of the page with the full steps. They cover baked-on grease on a pan, a greasy stovetop, a grimy oven or range top, a grease spot on a shirt (fresh or after the dryer), sour towels, towels that smell like the washer, slimy cilantro, black basil, and making your own washing soda.

  4. Page 4: The laundry reset card

It has the one-time towel reset, the four habits that keep the smell away, and what “hot,” “warm” and “cold” mean on a care label.

  5. Page 5: The fridge and leftovers card

It has USDA’s two-hour rule, how many days leftovers keep, the reheating temperature, and how to store herbs and lettuce so they last.

How it is checked

Every line in the guide comes from a page on this site that lists its sources. Those sources are product labels, the makers’ own directions, and government food and safety pages from USDA, CDC and state health departments.

The checking is how we earn your trust, and each page of the guide carries the date it was last checked.
